Hypochlorous Acid has been making headlines recently for its natural power to cleanse and repair delicate facial skin. Hypochlorous Acid, known by its scientific name as HOCL, is a super molecule that is used by our own bodies to fight injury and infection. When our body detects an invading germ or threat, it sends out an army of white blood cells, which release Hypochlorous Acid to attack harmful pathogens.

Once eczema causes the skin to become irritated, the dermal layer is compromised.  This allows excess bacteria to take hold in the rash, which prevents the skin from healing.    The most common bacteria for problem skin is Staphylococcus aureus, or Staph. Since bacterial imbalance is the common culprit to these common eye irritations, eye care professionals recommend a gentle wash to remove stubborn bacteria, without further irritating delicate, inflamed skin.  Recently, ophthalmologists have begun to recommend Hypochlorous Acid not as a healing solution, but also as daily spray for lid and lash hygiene. 

On March 5, independent lab Valisure LLC issued a petition with FDA to recall several products containing the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide (BPO.) The problem? Tests of several skin treatments showed unacceptably high levels of benzene, a known carcinogen.
